Cora Lau

Brisbane Trail Ultra – Race Co-ordinator

During the Brisbane Trail Ultra in July 2023, Mr Paramedic Pty Ltd, led by Caleb, provided exceptional first aid services over 200 hours, including a medical commander and on-site first aid across various checkpoints. Their seamless collaboration with stakeholders and emergency services significantly contributed to the event's success. Highly praised for their professionalism and efficiency, Mr Paramedic was a key factor in our event's smooth operation, earning our strong recommendation and reappointment for the 2024 event.

    Brisbane Trail Ultra

The Brisbane Trail Ultra is an endurance running event spanning over three days and through more than 160km of varying terrain.  There are many challenges associated with the logistical side of organising such an expansive race, in which safety for the athletes, staff and spectators is of the highest importance. Athletes run distances of 10km, 20km, 30km, 60km, 110km and 160km on foot, of which the 160km race has a 36-hour run time.

This year, 9-11th July 2023, the Brisbane Trail Ultra was supported by Caleb and his team at Mr Paramedic Pty Ltd.  The support provided was for the full 36 hours during event weekend, as well as numerous meetings with relevant stakeholders.  These stakeholders include Brisbane City Council, Qld Police Services, Qld Ambulance Services, SES, Qld Parks & Wildlife Services, Seqwater and other major sponsors.

The staffing provided by Mr Paramedic include the below:

    • Medical commander within the Events operation room overseeing all on-the-ground medical personnel
    • First aid assistance and provision of first aid equipment, including airway access
    • First aid officer at all eight check point locations for the duration of the event
    • Mobile first aid officer in the field with event vehicle staff

This totalled over 200 hours of professional first aid medical personnel time spanning all hours of the day and night.  The check point locations were all within open air areas requiring all equipment, including shelter, lights and power source to be brought in.

The responsibilities required of Mr Paramedic included:

    • Providing professional first aid to all participants
    • Liaising with Qld Ambulance Services throughout the event
    • Work as a team with check point management, event operations room staff and volunteers
    • Provide immediate assessment and first aid to athletes and triage as required for progression of medical care

The check point managers, volunteers and Brisbane Trail Ultra team spoke highly of Mr Paramedic staff in attendance.

As part of the race organisation team, I was personally working alongside Mr Paramedic in the lead up, during and after the event.  Mr Paramedic is very organised, clear and transparent, and provided good communication between team members out on site.  All Mr Paramedic staff conducted themselves in a professional and courteous manner and only positive feedback was provided to me with regards to Mr Paramedic

As an event organiser, working with trusted team is an integral part of event success and we believe Mr Paramedic played a major role in our success for 2023.

The Brisbane Trail Ultra would highly recommend Mr Paramedic Pty Ltd first aid services for any sporting event and have already invited Mr Paramedic Pty Ltd to be our primary first aid medical provider for 2024.

Geoff Stanton

First Aid Coordinator TRF

In 2018, Mr Paramedic, under Caleb's leadership, quickly filled the gap left by St John Ambulance to provide first aid for the Townsville Running Festival (TRF). Despite the short notice, they efficiently managed the event's needs, including the significant Townsville marathon. Their ongoing service since then has been exemplary, working effectively alongside QAS and continuously enhancing participant safety and experience. I strongly recommend Mr Paramedic for reliable and proficient first aid services at any event.

Mr Paramedic Review - Townsville Running Festival

In 2018 when St John Ambulance ceased their first aid services for events in Townsville
Mr Paramedic came to the rescue at short notice to help us with first aid at the Townsville Running Festival (TRF).

As the first aid coordinator for the TRF, I was given about two weeks’ notice that St John was no longer providing first aid services for events in Townsville and to their credit they suggested that I contact Mr Paramedic, which I did.

Caleb (Mr Paramedic) didn’t hesitate to offer their services to cover the first aid for the TRF which has up to 2500 participants plus spectators. Caleb very quickly organised his crew and equipment to be ready for our event on the first Sunday in August. I don’t know how he did it! TRF is a big event of many running distances for all abilities and includes the Townsville marathon (second oldest marathon in Australia - 51 years). So, it was an outstanding effort to be ready for the day!

Ever since, Mr Paramedic have provided first aid services for the TRF. QAS also provides a crew and one ambulance at the TRF for any transportation to hospital at the TRF. Mr Paramedic and QAS work side by side with Caleb being the “commander” to coordinate first aid and QAS.

We haven’t looked back and I’m so glad that Mr Paramedic are with us as they have provided a fantastic service for the TRF since 2018. They have been wonderful to work with and each year we have discussions about what we have learnt from the previous year and how we can improve the experiences for our participants.

I highly recommend Caleb and Mr Paramedic to provide first aid at any event.
